1`` x 15` Exhaust Wrap - Short Roll - Black

The first step in controlling underhood temperatures. This product is designed to keep heat in the exhaust and evacuate it out of the engine compartment. Wrapping your headers will reduce underhood temperatures by up to 50% while providing additional horsepower, engine protection and passenger comfort. All exhaust wraps are not alike! We start with a hi-temp fiberglass composite material then add a proprietary coating to enhance heat retention and expand durability. We are also the only manufacturer to add 1.25" guidelines to ensure proper installation without the guess work.

  • Reduce underhood temperatures a realistic 50%
  • Improves horsepower
  • Added durability and heat retention
  • Only wrap with installation guide lines
  • Rated at 1200 degrees direct / 2000 degrees radiant heat

    DEI Exhaust Wrap FAQ

Why do I want to wrap my headers, pipes or manifolds?
Wrapping any type of exhaust piping is a crucial and important step when controlling exhaust temperatures and reducing radiant under-hood heat by up to 50%. Keeping exhaust gases hotter within the exhaust system helps in decreasing density and increasing the flow of exhaust gases. This improves exhaust scavenging which, in turn, reduces intake temperatures for increased horsepower gains. Also, limiting the radiant heat trapped inside the engine bay decreases heat absorption through the fire wall which keeps dash components and cabin temperatures to a an absolute minimum.

What is exhaust wrap made of and does it contain asbestos?
DEI exhaust wrap rolls are primarily composed of composite fiberglass material that is treated with a proprietary coating developed by DEI to help increase the wraps thermal resistance when compared to the other brands. DEI wraps contain NO ASBESTOS!

Will wrapping my exhaust pipes make it rust?
If the exhaust pipe is made of mild steel, it may rust over time with or without exhaust wrap. If you are going to wrap any kind of steel pipe we recommend using our HT Silicone Coating to seal and protect the wrap and even the pipe you are wrapping. In addition, HT Silicone provides added thermal insulation and increases the longevity of your wrap.

Will the exhaust wrap work on my stock exhaust system?
Yes, it is perfectly compatible with all exhaust systems from Cast Iron to Stainless Steel. Not only that, but you can safely use the wrap on any kind of tubing metal or aluminum. This includes piping on an intercooler, turbo down pipe, air intake and intake manifold.

Why only a 1/4 inch overlap, isn't more better?
More is not always better when it comes to exhaust wrap. You can hold too much heat in the manifold to the point of changing the molecular structure of the metal. This can cause premature wear of the tubes or fractured welds, overlapping 1/4 inch is fine as this allows just enough heat out to ensure performance without damaging the exhaust.

Can I wet the wrap for installation?
Wetting the wrap is actually recommended as it will make the material more flexible and aid in a much tighter wrap. Be sure to let the wrap dry completely before applying the HT Silicone Spray.

How does my exhaust wrap stay in place?
The use of DEI's Stainless Steel Locking Ties is highly recommend to keep your exhaust in place and looking clean. It is also possible to use a stainless steel worm camp as well but generally not recommended.

Why should I purchase a kit when I just need the wrap?
To achieve a professional installation and maximum durability it is recommended to purchase the Exhaust Wrap Kit. It has enough material to cover a standard set of V8 headers, it also includes your choice of color of HT Silicone spray and assorted Stainless Steel Locking Ties. This will prevent multiple trips to the auto parts store.

    The Q&A on this Product
QUESTION:  I own a 2wd 1991 Toyota 22re 4cyl engine truck, I recently installed a new header and exhaust system complete from LC Engineering. Even though everything is factory coated from LC Engineering I notice my engine compartment is much hotter now because of the mod. Besides wrapping my header to help solve this problem, can I or is it a good idea to wrap from exhaust header all the back to the tail pipe or will it hurt my exhaust system and possibly my engine. If not how far back should I go too and what size wrap should I be using?
ANSWER:  Wrapping the whole system is not a problem but we do not recommend wrapping the cat. Two inch wide wrap would be best on the exhaust system and 1” wide wrap on the header to make it easier to wrap on the bends.
QUESTION:  Will the wrap or silicone spray have any effect on the crome on my pipes?
    ANSWER:  No, none.
QUESTION:  how much wrap do i need to cover a v8 with full length headers
ANSWER:  Get the exhaust header wrap kit - Item #: 010112
QUESTION:  I see that you don't have a clear silicone but I bought the tan wrap, will te white spray change the color of my wrap? Is there a way to keep it tan? If I would have known I couldn't keep my exhaust tan I would have done this job a different way.
ANSWER:  We don't sell a clear silicone.
ANSWER:  No. We have black, white and aluminum.
QUESTION:  I owned a BMW r1100r, which roll do you suggest ?, do you ship to Malaysia ? what will be the cost for shipping courier (with tracking number)?
ANSWER:  We recommend the motorcycle pipe wrap kits. There are three colors to choose from. It will cost $47 extra for shipping and you can order online.
QUESTION:  about how long and what width do you reccommend for an sv650 naked, also what length ties do you reccomend?
ANSWER:  15 feet of 2" wrap should do your SV650 pipe, and 8" stainless steel ties are big enough to encircle it. You also need to seal the finished wrap with hi-temp paint or our far superior product, Hi-Temp Silicone Spray.
QUESTION:  is it possible to remove exhaust wraps after the have been in place ? ( want to change color )
ANSWER:  Certainly, exhaust wrap may be replaced with new whenever necessary. Note that it is a good idea to remove corrosion that may have occurred underneath the wrap before re-wrapping. Sealing the wrap with hi-temp silicone spray is necessary to prevent corrosion from occurring in the first place.
QUESTION:  I recently put an aftermarket pipe on my atv. After riding it i found out that it is melting the plastic of the rear fender. Will this wrap prevent tue pipe from further melting the plastic?
ANSWER:  Wrapping your exhaust will protect the plastic IF AND ONLY IF there is an air gap between the wrap and the plastic when installation is complete. If there IS an air gap of 2mm or greater after wrap installation, it will protect better than any other solution. In technical terms, a convection gap will protect your low-melting point components, direct contact will not accomplish anything except slower melting due to conduction. Note that it will be equally effective if you put a heat shield on the plastic - IF AND ONLY IF there is an air gap when you are done with the installation. See item 10460 Reflect-A-Cool. (type item # into Search field or scroll down the Exhaust wrap category)
QUESTION:  Is black silicone coating usualy used on black wrap, or is there a clear version of your silicone coating spray?
ANSWER:  It comes in either Black or Aluminum color. Most of our customers order black silicone with black exhaust wrap.
QUESTION:  my standard (sv 650)header pipe has a little bit of surface rust if i cleen this ov can i still wrap my exhaust
ANSWER:  Existing rust should be cleaned off with a commercial rust removing product - most of these contain phosphoric acid, so exercise care in their use. The spot will be subject to rust first in the future unless protected - spray a little of the Silicone Hi-Temp compound on the spot before wrapping. See the application instructions on this product listing for more details.
QUESTION:  Is this safe for titanium street bike headers?
    ANSWER:  Yes it is.
